Camp Shakespeareans are promising cooler weather with their forthcoming performances of The Winter’s Tale, one of Shakespeare’s final plays, on Friday, July 8, at 7:30 p.m., at the TCHCC Sanford Schmid amphitheater in La Grange, Tx, and at the Winedale Theater Barn (near Round Top, Tx) on Saturday, July 9, at 1:00 p.m.
The play has all of the features of a fairy tale and often reminds us of that. It invites belief in “things monstrous to human reason.” It is one of those “once upon a time” stories about a jealous king who wrongly punishes his wife and then suffers the consequences. Things get better when we are fast-forwarded to a refreshing new springtime country life is good and resolution is on the way. Like Shakespeare’s other romances, this one explores the world of possibility, where wonder and miracle and belief in the impossible are vital to human experience.
Camp Shakespeare will be taking the play to the Crystal Theater in Gonzales on July 7, for a special performance at 3:30 p.m., sponsored by the Gonzales Youth Organization and the Gonzales “Shakespeare Ninjas.”
Admission to the performances in La Grange and Winedale is $5.00. Kids under 12 admitted free. Reservations for the Winedale performance advised.
